This unusual slot ‘car’ came our way recently, an Argentinian Fire Truck modelled on a 1938 Chevrolet Pick Up.

The 14.5cm long body is vacuum formed with hand-painted detailing such as the window surrounds.  The two-piece chassis is adjustable for width and on the guide tab. It hinges where pop-rivetted towards the back. Grip is magnet-assisted as you can see. The motor appears to be a 16D with neat endbell heat sinks, but it’s of a type we’ve not seen before. Tyres are sponge rubber front and rear. The body attaches to the chassis using velcro… we did say it’s unusual!

The Bomberos de Argentina model is #1228 – enlarge the front or rear body pics. and you’ll see ‘Tormo 1228’ as the license number plate. It’s just one of a large number of models; there’s a 60-plus page online catalogue at Flickr.com although Lisandro Chaula of Tormo explained that more models are available at their U.S.A ebay store, the main retail outlet. Look for ‘Toy Scout 588017’.
